CLEVELAND, Ohio, 8 May 2023 – Dr. Shawana Johnson, GISP, President of Global Marketing Insights, has partnered with fellow subject matter experts on 5G, IoT, and fabric networks for a GEOINT 2023 workshop on assuring the secure and rapid transmission of critical data across the battlespace. The team includes NineTwelve of Indianapolis, Indiana, and STEP CG of Covington, Kentucky.
Assured Architectures: Building Resilient and Reconfigurable Networks to Ensure Transport and Security of Critical Data in Space or a Digital Twin will be presented at 7:30 am on Tuesday, May 23, at GEOINT 2023 in St. Louis. Seating is limited and registration is mandatory at https://geoint23.mapyourshow.com/8_0/sessions/session-details.cfm?scheduleid=155.
“In the modern battlespace, the ability to acquire and transmit data to support the processing, exploitation, and dissemination (PED) of information, including GEOINT data sets, at the edge is vital to the enablement of Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) and confident decision making,” said Dr. Shawana Johnson. “Adversaries are aware of this and seek to disable forward deployed communications infrastructure.”
This GEOINT training session will demonstrate the multiple ways in which commercial dual use technology are leveraged to extend communications networks to all disparate nodes or leverage them as potential rerouted pathways, included space-based networks as needed. The session will showcase infrastructure builds and communications ecosystems with the resiliency of SATCOM backhauls, edge compute and processes through secure, self-healing networks where multiple commercial technologies are utilized.
The featured workshop presenters are:
Dr. Shawana Johnson, GISP, globally recognized geospatial SME, who will discuss commercial space architecture that impacts geospatial intelligence and connectivity to move data.
Adam Bolander, Senior Solutions Architecture at STEP CG, will discuss the architecture of assured texture fabric networks that ensure faster communication, lower latency, and resilient data connectivity for battlespace awareness and GEOINT at the edge.
Michael Bilyeu, MSAAE, Director of Emerging Technologies at NineTwelve and SME in hypersonics and advanced propulsion systems, will describe how to test these connectivity architectures in zero-trust testbeds to play out battlespace awareness scenarios.
Also on hand to answer audience questions will be current military reserve personnel Zachary J. West, CISSP, Army Reserve Major – Sr. Cybersecurity Architect at STEP CG – Commercial, National and DoD Security, SME in strategizing organizational defensive means to reduce operational risk, previously served as Army Cyber Protection Brigade (CPB) Element lead in support of EUCOM cyber directives; CPB National Incident Response Battle Captain; and CPB Current Operations Officer overseeing 20 Cyber Protection Team’s global mission. Discussions will include applications of secure data transmissions in humanitarian assistance, disaster management, health care, and commercial vehicle transportation.
The one-hour training session will be open to all GEOINT Symposium attendees and will most benefit GEOINT analysts, field commanders, logistics officers, cybersecurity specialists, and anyone who needs to rapidly move data in 5G environments at the edge.
Session attendees will leave this workshop with the following outcomes:
- Insights into the vulnerabilities of 5G and IoT networks,
- Understanding of ecosystems and infrastructure available regardless of domain and data type,
- Demonstrations of ways in which autonomous sensing moves across these extended networks and disparate nodes in local or deployed edge environments.
Climate Action for Africa – Additionally, Dr. Johnson will be available throughout GEOINT to discuss an ongoing Climate Action for Africa program. Global Marketing Insights has teamed with the World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC) and AGFUND to conduct research into the current and future applications of geospatial technologies in Africa. GEOINT attendees are encouraged to complete a five-minute online survey “Leveraging Commercial Geospatial Capabilities for Climate Action in Africa” at www.empliant.com/survey/F6E3E121B-B283-19F5-0096/
