Motorola Solutions’ Intelligence-Led Public Safety solutions will help St. Louis Police identify and distribute incident-relevant information to first responders in the field
ST. LOUIS – April 16, 2015 – Police departments across the country are looking for smarter ways to capture, analyze and correlate the large amounts of crime and potential crime data they receive to gain a common operating picture. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department now uses Motorola Solutions, Inc.’s (NYSE: MSI) Intelligence-Led Public Safety solutions in its real-time crime center to help identify and distribute information to officers before crimes occur, during active incidents and in support of investigations. Giving officers better information can help improve response times, increase citizen engagement and maximize the use of taxpayer dollars for an overall safer community.
Motorola Solutions’ Real-Time Intelligence Client helps aggregate and correlate data from multiple sources such as video, sensors, alarms, computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and records management systems. Crime center analysts and officers can then seamlessly send that information out to first responders on the scene, providing actionable intelligence and comprehensive situational awareness where it is needed most.
“The Intelligence-Led Public Safety capabilities being implemented by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department will help increase situational awareness while helping to keep officers and citizens safe.” said Motorola Solutions Smart Public Safety Vice President Tom Guthrie. “These tools will help the department unlock additional value in its existing technology investments while getting the right information to the right people at the right time to help officers avert, respond to and resolve incidents.”
As part of the initial deployment, Motorola Solutions will install two Real-Time Intelligence Client positions, a video wall with eight displays (expandable to 32 displays), existing video management systems integrated with CAD and third-party applications such as gunshot detection solution ShotSpotter®. The department plans to staff the real-time crime center with analysts 24 hours a day.
“Technology is part of police officers lives and Motorola Solutions technology is providing a platform that interfaces with existing systems and provides officers with more information than ever before,” said St. Louis Metropolitan Police Chief Sam Dotson. “In today’s technological world officers and citizens are demanding it. Ultimately we have a safer community and focused resources because of the technology.”
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is also a customer of PublicEngines, which was recently acquired by Motorola Solutions. The combination of PublicEngines’ analytics technology such as CommandCentral with Motorola Solutions’ situational awareness tools will give St. Louis an unmatched platform for delivery of Intelligence-Led Public Safety capabilities.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has approximately 1,350 officers and 520 civilian employees serving more than 62 square miles and more than 300,000 residents. The city has been a Motorola Solutions customer for more than 35 years with approximately 4,000 two-way radios deployed.
