With 2021 approaching an end in a relatively quick fashion, many will be looking at what 2022 will have in store for them in regards to the newest trends that are expected to take off and be available over the next 12 calendar months.
Of course, the art industry is one of the sectors – just like fashion – that goes through a variety of different trends each year, with new designs, colours, themes and even styles being provided. Naturally, this can make staying on top of it all rather challenging and something that many will struggle with, as there are always a number of different things to look out for.
However, we have decided to highlight the main trends that people can expect to see in 2022 when it comes down to the art industry, with interior design trends appearing to be some of the biggest to expect in the coming months.
Organic is one of the biggest trends to expect in 2022
Some might already argue that the organic trend is here already as humans and nature have a connection that has run incredibly deep for years, but 2022 could be the year where we see it become even deeper.
When thinking about organic trends, we mean things such as natural elements being within the home, therefore things like woven baskets, rattan and even wicker remain at the top of the list when thinking of art trends for 2022.
Cottagecore is going to make a comeback
It might not be for everyone, but it would seem 2022 could be the year that sees cottagecore come back into fashion! However, some would argue that this particular interior design trend is a lot more than the countryside themes used and the floral wallpapers that can usually be found.
Some would argue that it is actually a way of life and that the concept of cottagecore has been built on embracing a simpler and more sustainable existence. Indeed, with the continued push for the world to be greener, it would not be a surprise to see this trend truly burst into life in 2022.
Retro will take centre stage
Although retro themes have never been new to the art industry with a number of artists who have pieces at an art gallery online available having used throwback themes as a source of inspiration, it would seem that one of the biggest predicted art trends that could happen in 2022 is to see certain time periods boom over the next year.
It is believed that time eras such as the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s could really come to life, with this becoming a huge obsession. Indeed, it is thought that furniture could be amongst the biggest retro items that people look to acquire, with pieces becoming investments.
Those that are round and circular in shape will be considered to be the most trendy, whilst those that look the most comfortable will also be high on the list as more and more of us remain at home more often than previously.
Multifunctional space will be an art trend followed in 2022
Linking on from the fact that individuals will likely be spending more time at home given what happened in 2020 and 2021, one of the biggest art trends that can be expected to be seen in 2022 is for rooms to be able to serve for more than one specific purpose.
Many will have gotten used to using the dining room as a make-shift office for an extended period of time, which has led to a desire to try and create a stylish home office in some of the most unexpected spaces.
Indeed, some have looked to utilise space under the staircase by fitting a desk under them, whilst others may decorate a corner within a room that is dedicated to being an office space with the use of a specific piece of art or a wall mural as they create a feature wall that helps to define the area in which it is situated.
Expect more and more people to do this as they look to try and separate their home from their work as much as they can, especially after being forced to for a significant period of time already.
