GIS imaging has evolved greatly in a short time and continues to evolve at a rapid pace. File sizes are growing and images have become more intricate and rich in color. HP is keeping pace with these technological developments and the increased demand placed on the GIS/Geo professional to produce amazing output at a faster pace and lower cost.
HP solutions vary in specifications and meet a wide range or uses, providing the user base with a wide range of output options (sizes), fast print speed, web connectivity, security features, image resolution, memory, rich color, accuracy and more.
Recently (June 2014) HP held a small event in San Diego to provide an official announcement of their new, Large Format Page-Wide Technology – designed to deliver wide format, high volume prints faster and cheaper than ever before!
PageWide Technology
In a nutshell, PageWide technology is quite innovative in that the solution consists of more than 200,000 nozzles on a stationary print bar – yes 200,000!! The bar spans the width of the page and enables the user to produce an array of output such as maps, drawings, posters and more – the technology is meant to disrupt the existing LED (light emitting diode) printer market (Think $$$).
HP is using the PageWide technology innovation in their latest solutions targeted at the large format market by adding several solutions to the growing portfolio of devices specifically for high volume production printing. The company announced the DesignJet T3500 (for productivity and the enterprise user) and the T7200 (designed for the reprographics, high volume house). These devices will be available for purchase in the second half of 2015 at a yet to be disclosed price point. Users will enjoy a scalable solution that will churn out full size plots in just 21 seconds, the hardware supporting 2 large rolls of media (T3500) and 3 rolls (T7200).
HP has made it a point to specifically identify and target the growing GIS market for these new devices, in particular the T3500. The company points out how the industry has now rebounded nicely since the economic slump of 2008/2009 and with that rebound there has really been a huge evolution to color. This has led to much re-thinking of products by the company and in doing so they have made a huge effort to disrupt things and also challenge the industry. the result has been a pretty dramatic transformation which is found in the new products. HP execs are quick to point out that design is the foundation of the business and that InkJet technology has grown significantly in marketshare and is attractive to the customer who demands a faster solution that is cheaper. With PageWide technology the company is introducing solutions that are faster than inkjet and LED technology while using high pigment inks providing very dark blacks and extremely vivid colors – the output is also resistant to water, smudge, highlighters and more!
This innovative technology, which consists of more than 200,000 nozzles on a stationary print bar and spans the width of the page, enables users to produce a variety of black-and-white and color applications, such as drawings, maps and posters. HP PageWide Technology will disrupt the $1.3 billion production printing market currently dominated by monochrome light-emitting diode (LED) printers
